Chengdu and Shenyang Fly Mysterious Stealth Fighter Jets or Drones

 

A fifth-generation J-20 fighter accompanied a new Chinese aircraft on a flight, about which essentially nothing is known thus far. The new aircraft’s impressive scale is evident in the footage of their joint flight, as the J-20 is already quite substantial.

The Chengdu J-20, also referred to as the Mighty Dragon, is a twin-engine stealth fighter that was created for the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). It is primarily intended for air superiority and precision assaults, and it is equipped with advanced stealth technology and multiple operational variants, including a new twin-seat variant called the J-20S. The engine configuration suggests a three-engine configuration, which might use domestically produced WS-10C turbofan engines, similar to those found on the J-20. A unique feature of this aircraft is its air intake arrangement, which includes an intake located at the top of the fuselage and two additional intakes on either side of the lower fuselage. The aircraft has the potential to serve a variety of functions, including air superiority and precision strikes, and could also function as a command and control platform in manned-unmanned teaming scenarios, although specific operational duties have yet to be confirmed.

Although specific information regarding the new aircraft is not publicly accessible, its flight in conjunction with the J-20 implies that it may be a component of China’s strategy to improve its air combat capabilities by utilizing advanced technology and coordinating joint operations between crewed and uncrewed systems.

The potential for unmanned systems to assist manned fighters in a variety of duties, such as surveillance and electronic warfare, is a significant benefit of the collaboration between this new aircraft and the J-20. This could indicate a transition to more integrated combat strategies in aerial warfare.

Another news is that Chinese sources say that Shenyang Aircraft Corporation has rolled out its new prototype fighter jet with a swept wing. They write that the first flight took place on December 20.

These developments have the potential to significantly alter the dynamics of regional security, particularly in relation to China’s military posture in regions such as Taiwan and India.
